Matt Nixon on fire at European Tour Qualifying School

Matt Nixon followed up his 65 yesterday with a sparkling six under par 64 today in the fourth round on the Tour course at PGA Catalunya Resort in Spain. His eight birdies couples with a couple of bogeys saw him leap up the leaderboard to 4th spot at twelve under par and is well paced to gain his European Tour Card with just 36 holes to play.

Chris Lloyd was again the epitome of consistency with another two under 70 over the Stadium Course. Three birdies and just one bogey took Chris into 29th place and within the elusive top 30. Speaking to Amateur Golf New after his round, Chris said, “Just another solid day out there. Not as many mistakes as the first few days, but I am feeling confident going into the last two rounds of this marathon”.

Matthew Southgate’s three under 67 over the Tour Course saw him move up tied 42nd. Well within the cut and a chance to shoot for his Tour Card over the final two rounds.

With the cut coming at three under, Tom Sherreard looked like making the it with five consecutive birdies from the sixth to the tenth. However, a double and a single bogey in the last seven holes on the Tour Course was heartbreaking for Tom, finishing just one under for the 72 holes.

Spain’s Alfredo Garcia-Heredia leads at fourteen under from England’s Steve Lewton and Finland’s Mikko Korhonen at thirteen under.

The leading 30 players (plus those tied for 30th place) after 108 holes will earn Category 11b Membership of The European Tour for the following season.
